Turned around an awful start into something quite decent. This time after Bugsy is actually really solid, but damn that start was ass.
Still ended up improving this by a lot. Was very fun to return to Crystal after a long time, 3DS gave me an avenue to really enjoy running this again.

Also note: This run is Manipless (Which is why it doesn't get Raikou), but given it's on 3DS and no one has actually mapped out or done manips on 3DS, it's also technically the pure Glitchless record there too.

Sonic 2 for the Game Gear has a reputation for being one of the hardest Sonic games, because many kids could not make it past the first boss. For me though, 8-bit Sonic 2 has always been the easiest and most relaxing Sonic game to run.
I've mostly done the Master System version in the past, which is very similar with only slight differences throughout the stages. I had previously done the Game Gear version back in 2022, mostly Best Ending runs though. I did a solitary placeholder any% run (the 15:49), and it got beaten recently (to 15:41), so decided to come back and do this category properly.
Another difference is that while the SMS version can be timed with IGT, in this version the timer disappears on the bosses for no god damn reason, so instead has to use the more complicated RTA-TB timing method, because pure RTA is simply not an option because of the extremely long Time Bonus.
Anyway, this ended up being an extremely solid run. Main timelosses are:
SH1: Didn't attempt Sky Jump and just took the hang glider. If I ever come back to beat this time, I will definitely add Sky Jump.
AL1: Missed corner clip
GH1: Got unlucky ramp, biggest timeloss of the run. Given how good the luck was in the rest of the run I shouldn't complain. But I will, god damnit!!
GM2: Stuck on the ramp at the start and blocked by the enemy.
Also some optimisations (e.g. SH3, GM1, GM2) and smaller mistakes throughout that were less than a second but add up over the course of the run. But this run got platform respawn in SE1, perfect GH3 luck, above average SE3 luck, and above average play throughout. Very satisfied with this run.

I lost count a long time ago...
With the new skip in TP2, I figured when I came back to this game, I figured sub 20 would be achievable.
Then, after getting on a run that absolutely should've been it that I choked in AD3, I went hard to really work on the back half of the game. Very happy with the strats and consistency that I put together, and then was able to crush the sub 20.
While there are plenty of optimisations possible throughout, the only below par stage in this run was MJ1. Everything else was standard or better. Very happy with this run.

I knew when I finally finished another run of this I'd beat my old time by a lot... but man, this was A LOT.
Doubles is really tough to get runs off the ground, because the AI is much better in the early sets than it is in Singles. That being said, I've somehow never lost in set 6 or 7, even when by all rights I absolutely should.
Plenty of incredible save moment in this run. Very fun stuff!

This beats the previous record of 76,800 by 4700 points.
A really fun and creative amount of combos in this one. Every one is tricky, interesting, and satisfying to pull off. Knux combos do be like that.
I ended up getting the clip at the end first try for the bonus 3 rings in Sonic's path, which made it look like there isn't as much time pressure as there can be here. Still not as much as a lot of the other ones, but you certainly can't dilly dally.
Reminder that for Score attacks, the 100K Time Bonus for finishing in 9:59 is not allowed (as it makes Time Bonus element otherwise uncompetitive) and you are only allowed to count 100 points from hitting the signpost (otherwise you could do it forever).
