Leaan's owners called us in a state, a speeding car had knocked their beloved puppy over. They couldn't stand to see her suffering, trying to do life with a broken leg...😰

Leaan's family have done a wonderful job in caring for her till now: purchasing her an identity collar, signing her up to our Steri Clinic to be vetted, inoculated and sterilised. She eats what they eat and sleeps inside as part of their family 💖

However, in South Africa, private vet care simply isn't affordable on a farm workers wage, and Leaan will not survive her current injury or the resulting infection without it 💔

The municipal dump in De Doorns homes a community of both humans and dogs. @SidewalkSpecials visit often to ensure the dogs are healthy, inoculated and sterilised ✅

Last July, with De Doorns reeling from unprecedented storm devastation, our storm relief outreach team drove there to check for injured dogs…

We named her Penny: her owner had been taken away to jail, local kids said she’d recently gave birth but all her puppies had died in the cold, she had mange, a broken hip from being hit by a garbage truck the week before and she had absolutely nowhere to go…💔

We asked you guys to help, to cover Penny’s vet bills and share her for her forever home. You did and here she is- totally unrecognisable from the terrified, mangy creature we found shivering on that landfill! 🥰

It’s Christmas Eve: an urgent call comes in, a Pit Bull shot in her yard…😰

Bella’s family’s beside themselves; none more so than her K9 sister, whose screams follow us as we drive away…

The bullet's fractured the bone, the surgery estimate for plate and screws is way out of budget, and the recovery time’s equally unrealistic. 😓

You know the sensible call is euthanasia. There are so many needing help that spending excessive funds on one dog feels irresponsible…

But Bella was just sleeping in her yard... Her sibling's screams as we took her away... Her family's tears... The fact that it’s now Christmas Day…

So, we made the ‘nonsensible’ call in hopes that our supporters; you dog loving, big hearted humans, would have made the same decision. 🫣

We posted Bella's story on Christmas Eve and received a few donations (thank you, humans 🙏🏻) but, sadly, not enough to cover her surgery and 6-8 weeks of recovery. 😞
