My composition ‘The Fire Within’ premiered for the first time in this concert in Dubai in 2021.
Inspired by the rich heritage of Andalusian music, this piece intertwines the poetry of Abu al-Hasan al-Shushtari with allusions to Gregorian chant and words taken from Hildegard of Bingen.
In this segment we hear the beautiful voice of Nabyla Maan singing the Arabic verses of al-Shushtari.

This concert holds a special place in my heart—an intimate evening in my hometown, surrounded by dear friends and incredible musicians. It was an absolute joy to share the stage with the brilliant Seyed Ali Jaberi, a true master of the tanbour, and the phenomenal daf player Mohammad Jaberi.

Lament, from my 2014 album The Centre, is a piece set to the words of Ibn Arabi, and performing it in this setting made it all the more meaningful.

A heartfelt thank you to all the musicians and to everyone who attended. And a special thanks to Masoud Mazaheri for arranging the beautiful Persian rugs on stage, adding a unique charm to the night.
