When Volleyball Team Japan enters BEAST Mode !!! The Japan men's national volleyball team (Japanese: 男子バレーボール日本代表), also referred to as Ryujin Nippon (Japanese: 龍神ニッポン; Lit. trans: Dragon God of Japan) or simply Nippon, represents Japan in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches, governed by Japan Volleyball Association.[1] As of September 2024, the team is ranked sixth in the FIVB Senior World Rankings, with their peak coming at second place prior to the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Japan first won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, followed by silver at Mexico 1968 and a gold at Munich 1972. In the years that followed, Japan has been unsuccessful and missed three successive Olympic Games before returning at Beijing 2008, where they failed to win a match. Japan then failed to qualify for London 2012 and Rio 2016. At the FIVB World Championship, Japan has won bronze medals in 1970 and 1974, as well as silver medals at the 1969 and 1977 FIVB World Cup.
Despite their past struggles in the world leagues, Japan has been recognized as one of the best volleyball teams in Asia, and Japan's SV.League is typically regarded as the most prestigious volleyball league on the continent. The team has won the Asian Championships nine times and the Asian Games eight times.
At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan and the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, Japan advanced to the Quarterfinals round and eventually finished in seventh place, its best result since the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. As of the last 3 years, the team has been successful in the world leagues as they have achieved both bronze and silver medals at the 2023 FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League and the 2024 edition, respectively. These results have been the nation's best since the tournament's creation in 2017.

Orlando Valkyries VS Columbus Fury | HIGHLIGHTS | PVF 2025. The Orlando Valkyries [6-4] secure their fourth win in a row, taking down the Columbus Fury [1-8] 3-1 with set scores of 15-25, 26-24, 25-18 and 25-20.
Brittany Abercrombie led the Valkyries with 15 total points, tallying 15 kills, two blocks and 10 digs in the contest.
Set 1
Facing her former team, Wilma Rivera set the tone early with a service ace. Columbus came out strong defensively, jumping out to a 10-5 lead and really giving Orlando’s high flying offense fits, holding them to a .000 hitting percentage. The Fury maintained their defensive dominance, leading 17-13 while outpacing Orlando in digs, 20-12. Columbus would go on to close the set with an 8-2 run, securing a statement 25-15 victory. Raina Terry grabbed seven kills in the opening set.
Set 2
After falling behind 3-1 early, Orlando quickly turned it around with three consecutive points, with kills from Pornpun Guedpard and Courtney Schwan, along with a Kaz Brown block to take a 4-3 lead. The teams continued exchanging points, with Columbus up 16-14. The Valkyries would go on a 4-0 run, that started with a quick kill from reigning PVF Player of the Week Natalie Foster, followed by three consecutive Columbus errors, allowing Orlando to gain momentum late in the set. Holding a 24-21 advantage, Fury would make a late charge, coming out of a timeout and tying the score at 24-24. However, Orlando would respond, and claim set two 26-24 off an Adora Anae cut shot. Natalie Foster finished with six kills on a .714 hitting percentage.
Set 3
After a strong finish in set two, Orlando carried that momentum into the third, playing with more energy. With the score tied 6-6, the Valkyries caught fire, going on a 13-6 run, pulling ahead 19-12. During the run, Pornpun Guedpard would look to get everyone involved, as Brittany Abercrombie, Courtney Schwan, Adora Anae, and Kaz Brown each registering multiple kills. With their offense back to clicking on all cylinders with a .371 hitting percentage, Orlando secured its second consecutive set win, closing out the set 25-18. Brittany Abercrombie led the way with seven kills.
Set 4
Up two sets to one, the Valkyries climbed to a 9-6 lead. Much like the previous set, Orlando had their way, stringing together an 11-6 run to extend their lead to 20-12. Holding Columbus to a .105 hitting percentage and hitting .357 played a big part in grabbing their lead. With the Valkyries’ offense firing efficiently and their defense playing much better during their recent win streak, Orlando continues to show just how difficult they are to stop once they gain momentum. The Valkyries would take set four 25-20. Brittany Abercrombie finished set four with six kills.
The Valkyries are back in action at home on Saturday, February 15, against the Grand Rapids Rise at 7 p.m. at Addition Financial Arena. This is the Most DRAMATIC Set in Women's Volleyball History !!! Conegliano make history with seventh Coppa Italia title. The Panthers are now the winningest team in the tournament.
Conegliano, who are undefeated in the season with 36 victories, played Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà second-placed Numia Vero Volley Milano in front of 9,000 people at the Unipol Arena in Sunday’s final and remained in dominant form, beating their rivals 3-0 (37-35, 25-20, 25-20) to take the title.
The match starts at a high pace with a first set full of fireworks. The two super teams, who have already faced each other for the Super Cup and World Championship this season, immediately try to unleash their powerful offensive arsenals. The first mini-break comes for Milano with an ace from Egonu and a block by Heyrman (5-7). Orro pushes the game a lot in zone 4 for a brilliant Daalderop, while Wolosz for Conegliano finds excellent answers, as in yesterday’s semifinal, from the Italian Fahr in the middle. The set is balanced, with Fahr scoring again to take the lead 10-9, but former player Sylla ties it. Egonu gets into rhythm, scoring three points in a row (block, ace, and tip) forcing a timeout by Prosecco DOC Imoco, who are down by 3 (11-14). Numia Milano raises the block again with Heyrman for a +4 lead (12-16), but there’s the omnipresent Sarah Fahr who with one of her “monster blocks” and a deadly attack keeps the Panthers close (15-16). Timeout for the Lombardy team. Captain Wolosz ties it with the first ace of the Final Four for the yellow-blue team (17-17). The match is entertaining and balanced, with teams giving their best in an exciting end to the set. Bella Haak warms up her arm, scoring repeatedly (22-21), but Egonu responds in kind, putting Numia back in the lead with a double (22-23). Gabi ties it. It’s Milano who has the first set point, but Gabi, despite a tough set in attack, finds the joker with a block and cancels it. Egonu scores again (25-24), but Milano misses the serve, as well as on the third attempt (26-26).
Another set point for Numia (they will collect 6, against 8 for the Panthers) with Sylla, but Isabelle Haak (10 points in the first, endless set) cancels this one too, 27-27. The Swede is hot, scoring an ace for 28-27, but the saga continues and Egonu “on fire” ties it up. Six set points are not enough in a true battlefield for Prosecco DOC Imoco, who must chase again at 33-34 after an Egonu tip, but Haak cancels it and keeps an endless set alive. After an incredible series, Paola Egonu (finishing with 14 points in the set!) errs (35-34), but Danesi cancels even the seventh set point. It’s up to the wonderful duo of Prosecco DOC Imoco to close it, first Zhu (36-35), then Gabi in counterattack for the 37-35 that makes 700 yellow-blue fans explode after 39 minutes of sublime volleyball. What a final!

CONEGLIANO vs NOVARA | HIGHLIGHTS | Coppa Italia 2025. PROSECCO DOC IMOCO BEATS NOVARA (3-0) AND TOMORROW (Rai Due at 3:20 PM) IT WILL BE THE FINAL! PROSECCO DOC IMOCO CONEGLIANO-IGOR NOVARA 3-0 (25-21,25-23).
Prosecco DOC Imoco: Gabi 11, De Gennaro, Haak 15, Zhu 10, Wolosz 1, Lanier ne, Lukasik, Chirichella 3, Fahr 14, Lubian 3, Bardaro, Adigwe ne, Seki ne, Eckl ne. Coach Santarelli
Igor: Bosio 3, Fersino, Alsmeier 7, Ishikawa 2, Mims 10, Bonifacio, Aleksic 7, Mazzaro 1, Tolok 17, Squarcini ne, De Nardi ne, Villani ne, Bartolucci ne, Akimova ne. Coach Bernardi.
The first semifinal of the Frecciarossa Italian Cup took place in a packed Unipol Arena with every seat taken, 8,000 spectators gathered in Bologna to witness the “classic” match between Igor Gorgonzola Novara and the Panthers of Prosecco DOC Imoco Volley, who have dominated Italian volleyball for five consecutive years.
Coach Santarelli starts with Wolosz-Haak, Chirichella-Fahr, Gabi-Zhu, and libero De Gennaro. Novara lines up with Bosio-Tolok, Bonifacio-Aleksic, Alsmeier-Ishikawa, and libero Fersino.
Two errors come from the Igor side, and Prosecco DOC Imoco is back at +5 (19-14). The yellow and blue reception continues to struggle, coach Santarelli tries to reinforce this area by bringing in Lukasik for Zhu, with Igor threatening at -2 (19-17) after a nice block by Bonifacio. On the third attempt, Fahr, tonight a safe bet (5 points and 2 blocks in the set), closes out a tough set at 25-21.
In the second set, without overdoing it, the Panthers quickly take command of the operations (7-5), then at the first sign of trouble, coach Bernardi stops the game because without any fuss, the Italian champions are already ahead 10-6, with Gabi stepping up her attacking game, frequently set up by Asia Wolosz. In Igor, Mims comes in, then Mazzaro, but Prosecco DOC Imoco has found its rhythm, adjusted the reception, and besides a super-Fahr in the second set, there’s Gabi increasingly “on fire” in attack: 16-11. However, both teams lack consistency, now it’s Conegliano that errs, Bosio scores from the first touch, then Ishikawa and Tolok in counter-attack instill fear in the Panthers, closing the gap to -1 (16-15) with a 4-0 run. Great Haak (she’ll be the match’s top scorer with 15 points) keeps the Panthers two points ahead, but now the battle heats up for the delight of the audience, including about 700 yellow and blue fans trying to push their team.
It’s time for the superstars, Sarah Fahr gives the “boost” for a +3 with a great block on Tolok (19-16). The Italian central is dominant at the middle, but the Panthers still feel the threat of Tolok (6 in the set) who, with the help of Aleksic, ties the score at 23. A miracle by Zhu (4 points in the set) on a “crazy” ball and the final missile from Haak (good set with 6 points and 46%) give the Panthers the longed-for 2-0 with a 25-23 that closes an exciting set after 30 minutes of battle.
In the third set, the better start is by Fersino and her teammates. Igor goes to challenge an on-and-off yellow and blue reception (1-4) and with hits by Tolok and Ishikawa, they lead the game in the first part of the set (6-9). Lubian comes in for Chirichella, and the Piedmontese player sounds the charge with a nice fast attack that brings the Panthers closer. The Conegliano crowd explodes when Lubian ties the score at 12. The entry of the Italian central has revitalized the team, and Prosecco DOC Imoco begins a head-to-head duel with Igor throughout the middle phase of the set.
After a series of great defenses by De Gennaro, first the ever-present Sarah Fahr in the middle (an outstanding performance by the Italian central with 14 points, 60% attack efficiency, and 5 blocks), then Zhu (10 points) with a soft touch shot, takes the Panthers to a 20-17 lead. The game is fought ball by ball, and the end of the third set is like a bullfight. At 23-22, Gabi (11 points for the Brazilian star) resolves a difficult situation to give two match points to Prosecco DOC Imoco. Novara doesn’t give up, Mims bravely cancels the first one, then after a long rally, the block by captain Wolosz (the only point of the Polish leader!) for the 25-23 sentences the 3-0 victory. Mission accomplished and Panthers in the Italian Cup final for the 9th consecutive year!
