In today’s deep dive, we explore the QJZ-89 (Type 89) – China's ultra-light 12.7×108mm heavy machine gun designed for maximum firepower with minimal weight. We’ll cover its history, design, firepower, operational use, comparisons with other Chinese heavy machine guns (like the QJZ-171 & Type 77), and its future in modern warfare.
The QJZ-89, also known as the Type 89 heavy machine gun, is a heavy machine gun designed in the People's Republic of China which fires the Soviet 12.7×108mm ammunition. The QJZ-89 has low weight through a combination gas/recoil action usually seen on autocannons, where gas unlocks the breech while recoil operates the feed and decreases the peak recoil forces induced on the housing and mount. Its direct impingement gas system is likely based from the Type 77.
China has reportedly developed 12.7 mm armor piercing discarding sabot (APDS) ammunition for the QJZ-89, similar to the U.S. saboted light armor penetrator (SLAP) rounds, increasing performance against light armored vehicles.
📢 Let me know in the comments – what’s your favorite heavy machine gun? Would you want to see the QJZ-171 covered next?
Hope you enjoy!!

Today, we take a deep dive into the DMV Anaconda, a highly adaptable, off-road capable military vehicle designed for modern warfare. Used by the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps, this beast is built for speed, firepower, and versatility.
The Anaconda is a light military vehicle developed and launched in 2018. The Anaconda is based on the 7-tonne gross vehicle weight IVECO Daily, a robust light commercial freight chassis produced since 1978. The IVECO Daily chassis is versatile and strong thanks to the use of a ladder frame, typical of heavier commercial vehicles.
The IVECO Daily celebrates 40 years of innovation, versatility and efficiency in light commercial vehicles. Since its launch in 1978, it has introduced ground-breaking innovations that have changed the industry: from the adoption of a rear-wheel drive truck chassis and independent front suspension to the introduction of Common Rail technology in 1999 – a world first – and the advanced Electronic Stability Program (ESP) for controlling vehicle behaviour during steering and braking. In 40 years, more than 3 million IVECO Dailys have been sold. Today, the vehicle is marketed in 110 countries worldwide.
The first vehicles were developed and built in 2018 and have been in service with the Dutch Ministry of Defence since then. The first delivery consisted of 46 AnacondAs (Carib version) for the Dutch Caribbean islands of Curacao, Aruba and Sint Maarten.
After this initial delivery, another 14 AnacondAs were ordered, this time for the Anti-Tank Unit of the Marine Corps. This led to the development and delivery of the AnacondA AAT. The AnacondA was developed by Dutch Military Vehicles in cooperation with our partners. The drivetrain was modified from a rear-wheel drive vehicle to a permanent 4×4 drivetrain in cooperation with Achleitner Fahrzeugbau in Austria.
During this development, IVECO Defence Vehicles SA approached Dutch Military Vehicles to start a partnership for the development of an AnacondA based on the IVECO Defence Vehicles MUV 4×4 chassis. From this partnership, the AnacondA MUV and Anaconda SOF were born.
In this video, we’ll cover:
✅ Development History – How the Anaconda came to be.
✅ Design & Specifications – What makes it stand out?
✅ Firepower & Modular Capabilities – Weapons and mission adaptability.
✅ Mobility & Deployment – How it conquers rough terrain.
✅ Operational History – Where has it been used?
✅ Upgrades & Future Prospects – What’s next for this tactical vehicle?
Hope you enjoy!!

When it comes to armored fighting vehicles, a reliable coaxial machine gun is essential. Yet, the L94A1 EX-34 has plagued the British Army’s Challenger 2 and Warrior IFV with endless malfunctions, poor rate of fire, and a history of jamming at the worst moments. But why is it so bad? And how did a helicopter gun end up inside a tank?!
L94A1 is the British Ministry of Defence designation for the long-barrelled version of the Hughes EX-34 7.62 mm chain gun, which is fitted to several British Army armoured fighting vehicles, including the Challenger 2 and the Warrior. A second version with a shorter barrel, designated L95A1, was also procured in small numbers. The EX-34 was specifically designed for use as a coaxial weapon in armoured vehicles, and has a number of features that make it suitable for this role. The gun is externally powered, meaning that misfires do not need to be manually cleared; instead, the rounds are simply ejected. All spent cases are ejected forwards out of the turret. This prevents any build-up of spent shell cases causing stoppages. Additionally, all gas generated by firing is vented through the barrel and ejection tube, preventing the build-up of toxic gases inside the armoured vehicle. The weapon is cooled by a venturi system, which draws cool air down the jacket and acts as a fume extractor.
In this video, we break down:
✅ The flawed design of the L94A1 EX-34
✅ Why it was NEVER meant for AFVs
✅ The shocking truth about its failures in combat
✅ Why the L7A2 GPMG should have been used instead
Hope you enjoy!!

The Namer Armored Personnel Carrier is the most heavily armored APC in the world, built from the legendary Merkava IV main battle tank. Designed to withstand RPGs, anti-tank missiles, and even artillery strikes, the Namer is a rolling fortress that keeps Israeli troops safe in the toughest combat zones.
In this video, we take a deep dive into the history, firepower, protection, and combat performance of the Israeli Namer, including its upgraded IFV variant armed with a 30mm autocannon and Spike ATGMs. We’ll also explore real-world battlefield experiences, from Gaza to Lebanon, proving why the Namer is one of the most feared and respected armored vehicles in modern warfare.
Namer (Hebrew: נמ"ר, pronounced [naˈmeʁ]; meaning "leopard," and also a syllabic abbreviation of "Nagmash" (APC) and "Merkava") is an Israeli armoured personnel carrier based on a Merkava Mark IV tank chassis. Namer was developed by and is being assembled by the Israeli Ordnance Corps. It has entered service in limited numbers with the Israel Defense Forces since the end of 2008. Due to budgetary constraints, the introduction of the Namer into the IDF has been slow, leaving the ground forces dependent on the M113 until 2027.

Sweden’s Cold War artillery was built different... Meet the Bandkanon 1, one of the fastest-firing self-propelled guns EVER made! Capable of unloading 14 rounds in under 48 seconds, this beast of a machine was designed to rain down devastation before the enemy even knew what hit them. But despite its groundbreaking autoloader, insane fire rate, and Cold War legacy, the Bandkanon 1 was ultimately retired in 2003.
So what made it special? Why was it built? And how did it shape modern artillery like the Archer Howitzer? In this video, I dive into the history, design, capabilities, and legacy of the Bandkanon 1—Sweden’s fastest artillery system. If you love military history, tanks, and firepower, this one’s for you!

A modern tank round consists of a projectile and cartridge. The cartridge is the shell and it consists of a cardboard like (it can be bent and deformed with improper handling) combustible cartridge wall wrapped around the propellant with a metal base at the end. Most of the cartridge burns up and the metal bit is ejected from the breech. The metal base doesn't take up much room and is not ejected with any significant force. Autocannons used by IFVs and the like have rounds that use metal cartridges and are usually ejected from an opening in the turret and dumped off the vehicle. Naval guns also eject the metal cartridges from their turrets to make the turret as compact as possible.
Mostly Western rounds are combustible case and the only part left is the metal base which ends up on the floor of the turret basket and you toss them out when you have the time. Though the old 105mm rounds before the switch to 120mm on the M1 were metallic cartridges and took up quite a bit of room if you didn't toss them out the loader's hatch. Russian tanks use an autoloader that automatically kicks the expended charge out a small hatch as part of the loading cycle.
