Every 20 minutes, a child is diagnosed with a critical illness. These children and their families face a devastating reality filled with fear and isolation. In these moments of uncertainty, there’s one truth that touches us all: Every one of these children deserves a childhood. What we do at Make-A-Wish is simple: We give anyone the opportunity to create a lifechanging wish for a child with a critical illness; a joyful and positive turning point in their medical journey. By rallying entire communities around wish kids, we create a movement of hope, unity and brighter days ahead for everyone involved – because, no matter our backgrounds, we can all agree that every child fighting a critical illness needs a wish to give them strength to fight. We won’t stop until we grant the wish of every eligible child – and we need your support to do so. Thank you for helping to make more wishes come true.

This video serves as a compelling tool to illustrate the transformative impact of granting wishes for children with critical illnesses, focusing on the Emotional & Mental Well-Being pillar. It highlights how wishes go beyond momentary joy to have lasting effects on children, families and even medical professionals – with vocal representation from each of those populations and proof points from the 2022 Wish Impact Study. This video is designed to deepen understanding of the Make-A-Wish mission among major donors and prospects, ideally moving them from awareness to action.

When children with critical illnesses meet their favorite athletes, they see the impossible as possible. They are inspired to feel stronger and more confident, because those they deeply admire bring them hope and encouragement at a time when they need it most. Beginning Sunday, July 14th @espn will air its multi-day “My Wish” series on SportsCenter which takes viewers on an in-depth journey into the lives of children with critical illnesses whose wishes to meet their favorite sports heroes were granted by Make-A-Wish.
This will be the 17th year that the series will be hosted by Emmy Award-winning reporter Chris Connelly. Connelly brings these stories to life through insightful and compelling interviews with the wish kids and their families. This year’s WishMakers include the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman, gold medal swimmer Katie Ledecky, the Duke University basketball team, and Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Learn more at wish.org/mywish.
Make-A-Wish extends its thanks to Disney and ESPN for their support of the “My Wish” series as part of The Walt Disney Company’s commitment to delivering joy and comfort to children with critical illnesses and their families. Beyond assisting with this year’s series, Disney – which owns ESPN – has been a steadfast friend of Make-A-Wish for 44 years and has helped the organization grant more than 155,000 Disney-related wishes, including the very first official wish.
