Long before we had the Snyder Cut, we had The Donner Cut. When production began on Superman II, Richard Donner was pleased to be coming back to the set and making another hit movie. However, with studio interference rampit following the success of the first film- WB and the Salkinds attempt to control the direction of the project resulted in losing their director, and nearly losing the franchise potential of their Superman. In 2006, Richard Donner returned to the editing bay to re-cut the film in his original vision, and thus- The Donner Cut was born, and this superior version of the movie reigns supreme as the canonical version.
