Ninety surviving false killer whales stranded on a remote beach in Tasmania will be euthanized, authorities confirmed on Feb. 19. More than 150 of these oceanic dolphins were found on the northwest coast near Arthur River, approximately 400 km from Hobart.
Despite rescue efforts, adverse weather and the isolated location hindered the successful re-floating of the animals. The cause of the stranding remains unclear.
This marks the first large-scale stranding of false killer whales in the region in nearly 50 years. False killer whales are an endangered species, known to grow up to 20 feet in length and weigh as much as 3,000 lbs.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday dismissed the claims about his approval ratings being at 4% as Russian disinformation and said attempts to replace him during the war against Russia would not work.
The Ukrainian president added President Trump helped "Putin to come out of years of isolation," adding that the U.S. leader lives in the "disinformation space."
Trump said on Tuesday he might meet Russian President Vladimir Putin this month and dismissed Ukraine's concern about being left out of U.S.-Russian talks in Saudi Arabia on ending the Ukraine war.
Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday praised the outcome of Russia-U.S. talks in Saudi Arabia and said that Ukraine would not be excluded from negotiations to end the war. "Nobody is excluding Ukraine from this process. So, there are no reasons for such a reaction to the Russia-U.S. meeting," he said.

After top diplomats from the U.S. and Russia met Tuesday to discuss national relations and negotiations regarding peace in Ukraine, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has condemned the fact that Kyiv officials were not included in those talks, saying it “puts at risk” Ukraine’s future and global democracies.
“Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine,” the Liberal leader said Wednesday.
Though Trudeau did not directly respond to a question from a reporter about U.S. President Donald Trump’s “damaging” suggestion that Ukraine started the war with Russia in 2022, he reiterated Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine.
“Canada and our allies are unequivocal on standing up against [Russian President] Vladimir Putin's illegal, immoral, unjust violation of the international order,” Trudeau said. “I'm looking forward to sitting down with my European partners to talk about how we will continue to stand unequivocally in defence of Ukraine, but also in defence of the rules that keep us all safe,” he added.

A Los Angeles jury found American rapper A$AP Rocky not guilty of two felony counts of assault with a semi-automatic weapon in a 2021 altercation with another hip-hop artist in Hollywood. Rocky celebrated the verdict by diving into the arms of Rihanna in the packed courtroom.
"We want to thank God first," Rocky told reporters outside the courthouse as he stood between Rihanna and his attorney. "This is crazy right now. I'm thankful and blessed to be here right now, to be a free man talking to y'all," he said.
"We said from day one he was innocent. He turned down a plea for almost no jail time because he was innocent. And I've always said this was an extortion. The extortion played out live in colour in court," Joe Tacopina, the lawyer for A$AP Rocky, stated.
A$AP Rocky was accused of pointing a handgun at a former friend, Terell Ephron, during a heated argument, then firing twice in Ephron's direction during a second confrontation. Both encounters occurred on November 6, 2021.
