There are strange little towers on the forest floor. Neat, right? Nope. Inside hides a spider that's cunning, patient and ruthless. Watch our NEW compilation, "4 of the Deadliest Tiny Hunters We've Ever Filmed" 👉 https://youtube.com/shorts/mxLhDEE-BY8?feature=share

Our Short, "Filming Sand Piranhas!" (https://youtube.com/shorts/Lcaii7rtjKs?feature=share) received a lot of comments -- particularly about whether sand piranhas are sand fleas. We explain how they're different species with the help of ecologist Dave Hubbard from the University of California, Santa Barbara's Marine Science Institute. And an additional thanks goes out to Kyle Emery and Jenny Dugan, his colleagues at UCSB.

Straight out of science fiction, the fearsome wormlion ambushes prey at the bottom of a tidy - and terrifying - sand pit, then flicks their carcasses out. These meals fuel its transformation into something unexpected. Watch our NEW compilation video, "4 of the Deadliest Tiny Hunters We've Ever Filmed" 👉 https://youtu.be/HLr0Xleaxb8

The killer punch of the mantis shrimp is the fastest strike in the animal kingdom, a skill that goes hand in hand with its extraordinary eyesight. They can see an invisible level of reality using polarized light, which could lead to a breakthrough in detecting cancer.

Ladybugs may be the cutest insects around, but they don't start off that way. Once they've bulked up, they transform, shedding their terrifying looks, but keeping their killer vibes.
