http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com Our Dunlop D606 review! Is this road legal knobby any good for dirt bikes? You have an enduro motorbike but you ride on roads out to the tracks. Welcome to Cross Training Enduro. So you want a knobby that will behave on the road and not wear out too quickly. Need hard enduro training? Work through our video lists.Or maybe you have modified an enduro motorbike for dual sport riding. In either case, viewers have often asked me "Is the Dunlop D606 is a good choice for road and dirt riding?" Years ago? Yes. Nowadays? Hard enduro techniques are covered in our training vids. There could be better options out there? A quick bit of history. I used the Dunlop D606 knobbies for years. I used to ride on the roads with my XR400, KLX650 and TE610 for an hour on to the tracks. And later on I adapted a WR450F and a Husaberg FE570 as lightweight adventure motorbikes. In all these cases, the Dunlop D606 did work well, if I accepted the inevitable compromises. But today we have such a wide range of tyres that many riders will probably find better options than this Dunlop D606 review. And frankly the D606 front is probably worth avoiding. More on that later. Dunlop claims the D606 is for 10% road riding and 90% off-road riding. Into enduro and dirt bikes? Check out our dirt bike videos. We would put the balance as 20% and 80%. We always found the D606 worked quite well on road surfaces. As usual, we have read dozens of owner reports about the D606 and we found some riders claimed the front tyre has very poor grip for road riding but we never encountered that. Wet roads? No problems but then we never push hard on wet roads. Road noise is what you would expect - pretty loud. Extreme enduro training vids are our focus. High tyre pressure reduces the noise slightly, but you will want earplugs on the highway! Off-road performance? There are definitely compromises compared to an enduro knobby. The less aggressive tread pattern won't be so good in mud and soft sand. The rubber compound is very hard so there tends to be less grip in slippery terrain. The tyre carcass is quite stiff so you need to run very low air pressures to get a decent footprint on the ground. Anyone into hard enduro will hate it. But for everyday dirt riding you may find the compromises are okay given the D606 has good road manners. The Dunlop D606 front tyre is not good though. Our dirt riding tips are great for developing your hard enduro skills. If you want extreme enduro training see our playlists of enduro skills to learn. It can feel quite sketchy off-road. And it tends to wear unevenly with road riding. A lot of adventure riders choose the Pirelli MT21 front knobby instead.Longevity of the front D606? Usually you can expect to use one front tyre to every two rear tyres. But due to uneven wear you may find the front D606 only lasts about 50% longer than the rear. Try our training vids for working on your extreme enduro techniques. The only way to get more life is choose the Pirelli MT21, avoid aggressive road cornering, and use high air pressures when road riding. Possibly the best option for the front tyre is simply to run with your favourite off-road knobby. If you aren't cornering or braking agressively on bitumen then front knobbies don't wear out quickly - assuming you have a light enduro motorbike. What else? There's the Mitas E09, Continental TKC80, Kenda Big Block, Metzeler Karoo, and Kenda Trackmaster 2 for starters. And of course the Tusk Dsport in north America. Do you have other suggestions for road-legal knobbies? As the motorbike's weight climbs above 136kg (200lb) you can get uneven wear using aggressive front knobbies for road riding. And the flexing knobs can be quite scary with aggressive cornering or braking. Similar budget tyres to the Dunlop D606? We already mentioned the Pirelli MT21. In the USA there is the Tusk Dsport which is extremely similar to the D606 in all respects but almost half the price. You lucky bastards. All the reviews indicate it's on par with the Dunlop knobbies so it appears to be a bargain. If anyone had trouble with the Tusk Dsport let us know in the comments. I started this review by asking if the Dunlop D606 was still a good choice for dirt riders who will be riding on the road as well. In the old days? Sure. But nowadays there's a wider range of knobbies designed to handle the road as well. For example, the Motoz Tractionator Desert which is rated 85% off-road and 15% road. The tour operator said they get really good mileage despite a fair bit of highway riding, and good traction in soft sand and dirt too. The Michelin Desert Race tyres. Bloody expensive but the same tyres are used by the KTM team at Dakar.

http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com Eight handy enduro tips for how to ride enduro prologue tracks! Ever looked at that those man made obstacle courses and said "No way!"? They actually aren't that hard if you follow a few basic strategies... Welcome to our Cross Training Enduro channel! The basis is an introduction on how to ride dirt bikes with almost 100 free enduro training vids. Cross training is a blend of trials and enduro techniques. Wheel spin and slides look great but in most cases mean you losing control of the bike to some extent. So get into our dirt riding tips. The top extreme enduro riders will only lose traction deliberately for certain dirt riding techniques, such as locking up the rear brake to line themselves up into a tight turn. Maintaining traction is a critical skill in cross training, see it all in our dirt bike videos. Watching top trials riders like Graham Jarvis, Chris Birch or Tim Coleman is like poetry in motion - from a standing start they can flip their bikes in mid air through 180 degrees, or climb a six foot vertical wall. Great dirt riding techniques. A key part of moves like this is the use of body positioning and 'weighting' - choosing when to exert pressure on the pegs and when to 'de-weight' or lift the bike up. Cross training means you will almost always be standing on the pegs and learning how to use your body weight and positioning to maximum effect. Everything in tough gnarly terrain is trying to throw you off balance, so balancing lays a strong foundation for enduro skills for guys like Jonny Walker and Ruben Chadwick. Trials riders can balance at a stand still for as long as they like. Cross training has a strong focus on being able to balance on your enduro bike, even at a stand still - this is a handy skill when you have minimal run up to your next obstacle. Balance also means you can spend more time standing on the pegs in tough terrain instead of sitting down, so you will have far more control of your bike. Into enduro riding? See all our dirt bike videos for dirt riding tips. Our channel now had hundreds of dirt bike videos covering reviews, and enduro riding techniques. Search our channel for dirt riding gear too. http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com Are car drivers actually trying to kill motorbike riders and cyclists? Are they selfish narcissists who believe 'might is right?' Are they just incompetent and shouldn't be in control of anything bigger than a remote control? No doubt all of these are true in some situations. Welcome to Cross Training Enduro. But research is showing why competent drivers sometimes actually don't see motorbike riders. This video is part of our ongoing motorbike safety series. It's known as SMIDSY in the United Kingdom and Australia. Try our training vids for working on your extreme enduro techniques.
Sorry mate I didn't see you! The next issue? Research at the Texas Tech University has shown we tend to view distant objects as being further away than they really are. So drivers may see a motorcyclist but think they have time to pull out. It's called saccadic masking. When our eyes move rapidly our brain is only taking snapshots of the scenery but our brain makes it appear as a smooth transition. Our dirt riding tips are great for developing your hard enduro skills. If you want extreme enduro training see our playlists of enduro skills to learn. Unfortunately a driver scanning their environment quickly can actually not see a cyclist or motorbike rider in some situations. And of course often they don't. They often have trouble guaging the distance and speed involved with motorbikes. What can riders do about all of this?Ride as though you are invisible to drivers. And now a case study! Three years ago I was riding along this street under the speed limit. If you can keep a safe grip on the handlebars, cover your horn button as well. If possible take a close look at every driver. Are they holding a phone in one hand? Constantly scan for your exit strategies if a car pulls out in front of you. Always have your front and rear brake covered, ready to hit the brakes. There's a good website called 'Science of being seen' that examines all the research to date and has some tentative conclusions about increasing our visibility. Check it out. Are they talking to a passenger? Hard enduro techniques are covered in our training vids. Into enduro and dirt bikes? Check out our dirt bike videos. Are they trying to eat a burrito with one hand and drinking beer with the other hand? Ride in the wheel track closest to the centre line to increase your visibility. If you have never practiced emergency braking, find a quiet road and start practicing. Keep your speed down. This increases your chance of being seen despite saccadic masking. What about making yourself more visible? High visibility clothing? White helmets? Driving lights? Reflective tape on your motorbike? All of this might help, although it definitely won't solve the issues of saccadic masking and perceptual problems with distance and speed completely. A driver wanting to pull out seemed to be looking straight at me and then pulled out. I was immediately on the horn and brakes but he didn't seem to react and kept slowly pulling out. Extreme enduro training vids are our focus. If you are enduro riding get into our enduro training vids. Near misses? Lets hear your stories. And more importantly, what are your tips for avoiding drivers behaving badly? I narrowly missed the back of his car and hit the gutter. You can still see the scratch marks in the concrete. Need hard enduro training? Work through our video lists. I hit the log fence, somesaulted in mid-air then slid down to the bottom of this embankment. My thigh immediately swelled up like a balloon so I thought I had fractured my femur and was internally bleeding. A passing cyclist called an ambulance. The driver? Nowhere to be seen. Thankfully the x-rays at the local hospital showed it was just severe bruising and I was using crutches for one week. Was there any way to prevent this happening? Not really, unless I had slowed down to a jogging pace! But riding like that I would be holding up traffic. Sigh. What about you? Ever crashed into a car pulling out?

http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com Are you a king of bling? A queen of sheen? Cross Training Enduro lets Dallas Shannon from Traction eRag loose onto this topic! Dallas is my brother from another mother. He lives in Canada, but don't hold that against him. Like me, he's less into the latest Eurotrash models and more into old school motorbikes. It's a common topic when we chat online, and last time we spoke he said "I'm gonna make me a video about this!" Hard enduro techniques are covered in our training vids. Here's the result. I'm not really a poster boy for the ideal rider. Need hard enduro training? Work through our video lists. Most of the time I don't bother with all that fancy textile motorbike gear. In fact when it gets cold enough I'd rather wear what we call the Canadian dinner jacket. Gloves? Extreme enduro training vids are our focus. If you are enduro riding get into our enduro training vids. The hardware store ones are better, and cheaper, than all that motocross stuff. Into enduro and dirt bikes? Check out our dirt bike videos. The important stuff like boots, helmet and knee braces for my dodgy knees are worth spending money on, but the rest is just window dressing. And I'm not impressed with the latest bike models. Tiny changes in bore and stroke bore me shitless. Our dirt riding tips are great for developing your hard enduro skills. Bold new graphics won't make me any faster. And all this fancy new technology just seems to mean more things can go wrong. I love my XR200. It's 34 years old. The tyres are at least six years old. And in the hands of a good rider it will still smoke lesser riders on the latest eurotrash if the track is twisty enough. The Husaberg is about as modern as I want to get. I've turned it into a freak but jacking the rear end up and slapping on a tall seat so I can cram my ridiculously long body onto the bike. Of course there's nothing wrong with spending a fortune on the latest model bike. Getting the suspension fully revalved even when the stock setup is better than you'll ever be. If you want extreme enduro training see our playlists of enduro skills to learn. Shelling out the cash for matching riding gear and all sorts of shiny bling for the bike that the magazines promise will unleash your riding potential. But it is kind of sad when you see guys are so disappointed when some old guy on a clapped out bike rockets past them, and they realise $20,000 hasn't really improved their riding skill. You've probably heard that expression, all the gear and no idea. Me? I'll never be that super fast old guy. And that's why I'm content with older bikes, questionable riding gear and minimal bling. I'm happy to be the guy with almost no gear and no idea. So what about you? Into the old school? Or too cool for school? Let us know in the comments. Try our training vids for working on your extreme enduro techniques.

http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com Welcome to our 30 minute enduro club vlog. Are dirt bike clubs a thing of the past? Or are they the key to keeping our riding areas open? Why aren't dirt riders generally keen to join a club... are they a waste of money? This was an online discussion with Dallas Shannon from Traction eRag and Barry Morris from Cross Training Enduro. Need hard enduro training? Work through our video lists. Welcome to Cross Training Enduro, with over 100 free training vids for riders on bike setup through to basic, intermediate and advanced skills. How good are our vids? Well we are the 27th most watched dirt channel in Uzbekistan. We have won the polished turd award five years in a row. And we have a world record 25 class action lawsuits for inaccurate coaching information. Why are called cross training? We have a focus on hard enduro, and most of the pro riders are former trials champions. So we apply trials techniques to enduro techniques, with coaching tips from some of Australasia's best riders: Tim Coleman, Chris Birch, Ruben Chadwick and Trevor Campbell. We even have tips from the hard enduro meister himself, Graham Jarvis. This channel covers many hard enduro techniques are covered in our training vids. While we mainly discuss the advantages of dirt bike clubs in this vid, there's plenty more. Into enduro and dirt bikes? Check out our dirt bike videos. The real fun starts when you see us middle aged dirt muppets trying to learn hard enduro skills. And speaking of fun, we do try to seriously present the best training tips possible, we think dirt riding should be fun... and a bit dumb. So we include tips on how to keep a KTM running, how to manage your gimp, how to enlarge your testicles, how to manage diseases, which body protection to use, how to buy Graham Jarvis' condom catheter, what to wear, the best cigarettes, and better riding through beer. The dirt riding is getting too commercial for our liking. Everyone is trying to sell you shit you don't need, convince you to buy the latest model dirt bike with 1mm extra suspension travel. If you are enduro riding get into our enduro training vids. Offering prizes, bombarding you with ads. Pushing the products they get kickbacks for. Serious reviews, crazy stuff, weekend rides. Get into it. Extreme enduro training vids are our focus. If you want extreme enduro training see our playlists of enduro skills to learn. So we actively avoid sponsorship. Running ads on our vids. It also means we can do no bullshit reviews. Manufacturers make some really bad mistakes. and there is a lot of dodgy shit being sold out there. Try our training vids for working on your extreme enduro techniques. Instead of glowing reviews for kickbacks or free product, we will try to keep the bastards honest. Whether it's EVS pretending their knee guards are knee braces, strap brackets rusting on Airoh, Leatt and Suomy helmets, lack of quality control on Sidi Crossfire boots. And our bike reviews will actively look for known issues and problems, not just the usual positive blurb. Our dirt riding tips are great for developing your hard enduro skills.

http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com We often get asked if the smaller two strokes are practical for hard enduro riding. Here are our thoughts but we are keen to hear what you think. Our Cross Training Enduro channel is basically an introduction about how to ride dirt bikes with 100 free enduro training vids. Cross training is a blend of trials and enduro techniques. Most trials techniques involve precise use of the clutch, such as feathering the clutch for traction control up hills or dropping the clutch to launch the bike into the air as Jonny Walker and Graham Jarvis can do on enduro bikes and trials bikes. Cross training applies the same principles to enduro bike with these dirt riding techniques - you'll be amazed at the difference it makes in terms of traction and advanced techniques such as jumping up vertical rock faces or massive logs. Check out our dirt bike videos. Like almost every top extreme enduro rider, Graham Jarvis, Jonny Walker and Tim Coleman came into the sport from an expert level trials background. Into enduro riding? See all our dirt bike videos for dirt riding tips. Our channel now had hundreds of dirt bike videos covering reviews, and enduro riding techniques. Search our channel for dirt riding gear too. Our dirt riding tips also include wider topics such as the best dirt riding boots. "You can pick up tricks on an enduro bike pretty quickly if you’ve done trials because the skills are there", according to Graham. "With my trials background, I never had to practice tricks on an enduro bike." Not surprisingly, trials skills are most easily learnt on a trials bike due to their light weight and size. Cross training techniques are much easier to learn on a trials bike first, then transfer the skill to your enduro bike. If you are serious about learning advanced riding techniques, it is definitely worth thinking about getting a trials bike and joining a local club.

http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com http://tractionerag.com It's time for some Epic BC riding and a mountain climb with the Traction eRag crew. Into enduro riding? See all our dirt bike videos for dirt riding tips. Our channel now had hundreds of dirt bike videos covering reviews, and dirt riding techniques. Search our channel for dirt riding gear too. Our dirt riding tips also include wider topics such as the best dirt riding boots. It's British Columbia. Crisp mountain air. Crown land that extends from the USA border to the Arctic Circle. We are on the infamous Outlaw Run with the Traction eRag reprobates. The riding here in British Columbia is incredible. Everything in tough gnarly terrain is trying to throw you off balance, so balancing lays a strong foundation for enduro skills for guys like Jonny Walker and Ruben Chadwick. Trials riders can balance at a stand still for as long as they like. Cross training has a strong focus on being able to balance on your enduro bike, even at a stand still - this is a handy skill when you have minimal run up to your next obstacle. Balance also means you can spend more time standing on the pegs in tough terrain instead of sitting down, so you will have far more control of your bike. Around 94% of the province is crown land and you are allowed to ride most of this. So there's every chance you could ride from the USA border to the Arctic Circle if you had a big enough fuel tank. The unloading area features this great opportunity for some vertical face practice. I find this sort of thing very easy on the Beta Xtrainer but it's a bit nerve wracking on this little four stroke. Will it stall at the critical point? I've actually been over the handlebars twice when fuel injected four strokes decided to have a brain fart at the critical moment.
