A brand-new BMW M3 is coming! And Carwow has exclusive images showing you what it could look like.
It’ll be inspired by this new ‘Vision Driving Experience’ concept, which BMW has just revealed.
This incredible prototype has 1,300hp, can accelerate from 0-60mph in around 1.8 seconds and uses electric fans to produce 1.2 tonnes of downforce – just like the McMurtry Speirling!
However, the production-spec M3 will differ in some very important ways.
For starters, the head of BMW’s M division, Frank Van Meel has confirmed the next G84 M3 will come with the option of electric drive OR a straight-six petrol engine!
In fact, BMW is already working on upgrading the 3.0-litre twin-turbo S58 engine from today’s M3 for future M products. You can bet it’ll come with healthy power upgrades, along with a new hybrid system – not the one from the M5, but the mild-hybrid setup from the latest M340i.
That should help keep weight, and costs down. But how quick will the next M3 be? Well, the outgoing car is almost as quick as the 680hp AMG C63, despite having around 150hp less. So this new 6-cylinder M3 should be significantly quicker than its Mercedes rival.
And the forthcoming electric M3? Well, if this Vision Driving Experience is anything to go buy, it could be even quicker than the likes of the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire.
BMW hasn’t said how much these cars could cost, but it has teased what their interiors look like. And it’s revealed some eye-catching visual upgrades that I’ve never seen in a road car before…

We’ve got our hands on the fastest version of EVERY Tesla, and they’re about to go head-to-head in a drag race!
We’ve got the tri-motor Cybertruck, the Model S Plaid & X Plaid, and the Model 3 Performance & Model Y performance, and we’re about to see which will come out on top over the quarter-mile!
Let’s see how the five compare. The Cybertruck is the three-motor Cyberbeast edition. It produces 845hp and 930Nm and weighs an incredible 3,104kg! The cost in the UK, including import taxes, is around £150,000.
Then we come to the Plaids. Both the S and X come with three motors, and they both produce 1,020hp and 1,420Nm. The S weighs 2,190kg and costs £116,000, while the X weighs 2,464kg and costs £127,000.
Then we have the two performances. The Model 3 Performance has two motors which produce 460hp and 650Nm. It weighs in at 1,839kg, and it costs around £60,000.
The Model Y also has two motors, which combine to produce 527hp and 660Nm. It weighs 1,997 kg and costs the same as the Model 3—around £60,000.
So will the Plaids come out on top? Or could the Cyberbeast spring a surprise? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!
Thanks to @Y14nny and @tomi-auto for joining us for this race!

Mat’s buying his mum another car, and he’s going for a hot hatch this time!
A few years back he went shopping with his mum for an electric car, and she eventually settled on the Tesla Model 3. However, she’s had one or two issues with the Tesla, so Mat’s stepped in to help her choose a new one.
This time, to pick a petrol-powered car that still has as much punch as the Tesla, he’s brought together a selection of hot hatches! We’ve brought the BMW M135, VW Golf R, AMG A35 and Audi S3 together, and his Mum is going to put them through your usual Carwow review tests.
She’ll be looking over the design, checking out the cabins, seeing how big the boots are, and of course, taking them for a test drive. She’ll even race against them in a drag race!
Throughout the video, she’ll whittle down the cars until there are only two left. The question is, which do you think she’ll choose as her next car? You’ll need to stick with Mat and Sally to see for yourself!
