ROLLS-ROYCE SPECTRE: HOT WEATHER TESTING
Spectre, Rolls-Royce’s genre-defining all-electric super coupé, has now covered almost two million kilometres as it completes the third phase of the most rigorous testing programme ever devised in the marque’s 118-year history. This has already surpassed every Rolls-Royce testing programme before it – and it is still far from over.
Spectre is currently undergoing extreme hot weather tests in two locations in South Africa: Augrabies in the Northern Cape; and Franschhoek, the ‘French Corner’ in the Western Cape winelands. The stable yet contrasting climates provide some of the finest summer-weather driving in the world, with dry and extremely hot conditions in the north and more humid, Mediterranean-style, conditions in the south. At its hottest, temperatures can exceed 50°C, while the southern region hosts a great variety of surfaces and terrains, including twisting country roads replete with gravel, dust and dirt. Truly testing conditions, by any measure.
During this stage, engineers are observing and refining every system, hardware item and software protocol that has been developed over the course of almost two million kilometres of continuous testing. Only through such painstaking assessments can Rolls-Royce’s technical experts achieve the exacting levels of ride refinement that are so central to the experience beloved by clients, and successfully translate the marque’s defining ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ to the new all-electric paradigm.
Throughout Spectre’s testing, each of the motor car’s 25,000 separate performance-related functions have been meticulously tailored to deliver a quintessentially Rolls-Royce experience. The refinements being made now follow the principles of ‘marginal gains’, in which individual, very small and incremental adjustments cumulatively produce a significant overall improvement. The new Porsche Cayenne 2024 debuts with three different engine versions. An extensive refinement of the four-litre V8 biturbo engine developed by Porsche replaces the previous V6 engine in the new Cayenne S. With a maximum output of 349 KW (474 PS; Cayenne S: Fuel consumption* combined (WLTP) 13.4 – 12.4 l/100 km, CO₂ emissions* combined (WLTP) 303 – 282 g/km) and a torque of 600 Nm – 25 kW (34 PS) and 50 Nm more than its predecessor – it accelerates both the SUV and the SUV Coupé to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The top speed is 273 km/h. The entry into the world of the Cayenne comes with an optimised three-litre V6 turbo engine. It now generates 260 kW (353 PS) and 500 Nm, which is 10 kW (13 PS) and 50 Nm more than before.
Porsche has thoroughly refined its successful luxury SUV. The new Cayenne debuts with a highly digitalised display and control concept, new chassis technology and innovative high-tech features. “It’s one of the most extensive product upgrades in the history of Porsche,” says Michael Schätzle, Vice President Product Line Cayenne.
High-definition HD Matrix LED Headlights provide road illumination tailored to every driving situation, an air quality system filters pollutants from the air in the interior, and for the first time in the Cayenne, front passengers have their own infotainment display – for streaming videos during the trip, for example. With its extensively upgraded design and more powerful engine range, the Cayenne emphasises its claim to be the sportiest car in its segment.
Porsche has integrated a completely revised display and control concept into the new Cayenne. The new Porsche Driver Experience, first introduced in the Porsche Taycan, focuses on the driver's axis and optimises operation. Functions that the driver uses frequently are located directly on or immediately next to the steering wheel. For example, the lever located on the left behind the steering wheel now has additional functions for operating the driver assistance systems. The automatic transmission selector lever in the new Cayenne is now on the dashboard. This makes room on the new centre console for storage compartments and a large air conditioning controller in an elegant black panel design. Large, easily accessible controls combined with mechanical air conditioning switches and a haptic volume controller ensure optimum operability and a refined look. A key feature of the new Porsche Driver Experience is the right balance between digital and analogue elements.

The BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP SUPERWHITE accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 4.8 seconds. Due to the 22-inch all-terrain tires and the high vehicle weight, the top speed is electronically limited to 210 km/h (130 mph).
The BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP SUPERWHITE high-performance pickup is another highlight in the long success story of supercars from Bottrop that has now continued for over four decades. With it, #brabus once more demonstrates the huge wealth of expertise of the company accredited as a vehicle manufacturer with the German Federal Motor Transport Authority.
The basis for this exclusive pickup is the #mercedesamgg63. To transform it into the BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP, the #brabus engineers employed state-of-the-art CAD technology to develop a new rear cab wall with heated window for the passenger compartment, which of course remains just as spacious as before.
The #brabus cargo bed takes the place of the trunk. To accommodate the bed, #brabus developed a special, high-strength frame module for the off-roader that allows moving the rear suspension further aft. As a result, the wheelbase grows by exactly 50 centimeters (20 in), which also necessitated designing a longer driveshaft.
The newly created vehicle length of 5.31 meters (209 in) offers space for a cargo bed with a wide range of uses. In order to achieve the greatest possible stability, the bed floor is made from sheet steel. The side-opening tailgate is also made from this material. The carbon bedsides are produced by #brabus business division CSP by means of the complex prepreg process.
The design engineers use Flexi Teak as the material for the bed liner, which can also be found in the high-performance boats from #brabus Marine. The material on this pickup is white and features gray #brabus logotypes matching the overall color scheme. As a striking contrast to the white special paintwork, the double bed bars behind the cab of the BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP SUPERWHITE feature matt black coating as well as the robust roof luggage rack for which a roof tent is optionally available. The “800” model badge on the tailgate likewise sits on a black background.
BRABUS developed a completely new suspension concept to ensure the pickup can also be used for heavy-duty off-road operations. The engineers and technicians opted for portal axles, which give the pickup a whopping 49 centimeters (19.2 in) of ground clearance.
To match this design, #brabus developed the height-adjustable #brabus Ride Control coilover suspension for the BRABUS 800 Adventure XLP SUPERWHITE. The standard DYNAMIC SELECT suspension adjustment enables the driver to select different setups for the titanium-coated struts. This makes it possible to adapt the damping, powertrain, steering and assistance systems optimally to the different operating conditions.

This is a very pretty, early, short wheelbase Rolls-Royce 20/25 which could be described as a Doctor’s Coupe, but whatever term you use, it is a lovely configuration, very desirable, attractive to the eye, and very nicely proportioned. Having been with one family from 1965 until 2021 – 56 years, two thirds of its life so far, this Rolls-Royce has been well cared-for, and is nicely correct. Properly re-wired in correct, cotton-covered cable, fitted with overdrive, which is a very worthwhile upgrade in our opinion, and unusually has radial ply tyres - not often seen on Rolls-Royce 20/25 cars. Desirable Rolls-Royce touches include a very nice set of correct instruments, pillar-mounted spotlight, 'Gothic' rear lamps, and original trafficator arms, which work in conjunction with flashing indicators incorporated into the existing Rolls-Royce lamps (front & rear), all operating from the same switch. The Rolls-Royce is smart, sound, running very well, and benefits from a combination of the vintage appeal of a Rolls-Royce 20hp and the performance of a Rolls-Royce 20/25. A delightful little Rolls-Royce car, full of charm and character, and offered, serviced, prepared and MoT tested until September 2023.

The Rolls-Royce 20/25 was the second of Rolls-Royce Ltd's pre-war entry level models. Built between 1929 and 1936, it was tremendously popular, becoming the most successful selling inter-war Rolls-Royce. Its success enabled Rolls-Royce to survive the economic difficulties of the Great Depression years and remain one of world's great brands. A total of 3,827 20/25s were produced, of which over 70% are still on the road today.
The Rolls-Royce 20/25 was the successor of the highly successful 20 hp Rolls-Royce Twenty introduced in 1922. The target market for the Rolls-Royce 20/25 was the same as the Twenty – the luxury, owner driver market. The project to develop the next generation Rolls-Royce 20 hp was code named Goshawk. The goal for the new model was to increase power & performance. This was achieved by increasing the bore size from 3 to 3.25 inches. The stroke was unchanged at 4.5 inches. This resulted in a 17% increase in capacity from 3128 to 3675cc – bring the RAC rating up to 25.4 hp.
The new Rolls-Royce 20/25 model was debuted at the 1929 Olympia Motor Show and proved to be tremendously popular becoming the greatest of the inter-war successes. There were 3827 Rolls-Royce 20/25 hp produced – over twice the number of its contemporary sibling the Rolls-Royce Phantom II. The popularity of the Rolls-Royce 20/25 saved Rolls-Royce Limited during the pre-war economically difficult years. Ultimately the Rolls-Royce 20/25 model was replaced by the Rolls-Royce 25/30 model in 1936 in which the bore was further increased to 3.5 inches. In 1938 the 25/30 was given a new chassis with independent front suspension and was renamed the Rolls-Royce Wraith.
The Rolls-Royce 20/25 also enabled Rolls-Royce Ltd to quickly capitalize on its 1931 acquisition of Bentley Motors Ltd. As part of integrating its acquisition, Rolls-Royce management discontinued the Bentley 8-Litre car due to the perceived market overlap with the Rolls-Royce Phantom II. This meant the acquisition brought with it the Bentley brand, debt and engineers & manufacturing employees with no product to produce. They quickly decided to create a new Bentley using the 20/25 engine with some adaptations and a chassis developed for a 2 ¾ litre Rolls-Royce that was to be an economy version of the 20/25 but had been cancelled. This formed the basis of the first Derby Bentley – the 3 ½ litre Bentley. The "Silent Sports Car" as they become known were highly successful and were another major contribution of the 20/25 to the success of Rolls-Royce Ltd.

Changing the front of a Rolls-Royce is probably one of the hardest decisions a designer will ever have to make. In this video, retired Rolls-Royce designer Graham Hull talks about the challenges he faced in the 1990s with the Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph. He then goes on to compare the arrival of Salvador Dali and his melting watches and how that has changed people's views on design and experimenting with the iconic Rolls-Royce grille. Finally we discuss the brand new Rolls-Royce Grille for 2023 and the aerodynamic changes that have been made to it and how he feels he would have handled it if he were designing a Rolls-Royce at Goodwood today.
The most obvious and important feature is Rolls-Royce Phantom’s commanding presence. This has been further enhanced by a new polished horizontal line between the daytime running lights above the Rolls-Royce Pantheon Grille. This gives Phantom a new and assertive modernity, reflecting its driver-focused character.
A subtle geometric change to the Rolls-Royce Pantheon Grille makes the ‘RR’ Badge of Honour and Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy mascot more prominent when viewed from the front. The grille itself is now illuminated, a feature debuted and popularised in Ghost. The headlights are graced with intricate laser-cut bezel Rolls-Royce starlights, creating a visual connection with the Starlight Headliner inside, and adding further surprise and delight to Rolls-Royce Phantom's night-time presence.
Rolls-Royce Phantom’s side profile retains Rolls-Royce’s signature short front and long rear overhang, long wheelbase and broad c-pillar, the latter giving greater privacy for occupants. The silhouette preserves the elegant key lines running from the Spirit of Ecstasy to the tapering rear tail. The ‘split-belt’ line begins at the front fender and curves gently towards the rear door, emphasising the Rolls-Royce car's long dash-to-axle proportions, before falling gently towards the lantern-like rear lamps. The heavily undercut 'waft line' creates a strong shadow, visually signalling the Rolls-Royce marque's unequalled ‘Magic Carpet Ride’.
The Rolls-Royce side profile is further enhanced with a suite of new wheels. A 3D, milled, stainless steel wheel with triangular facets is available to commission in a fully or part-polished finish. Alternatively, the new Rolls-Royce Phantom may be graced with a truly elegant disc wheel, recalling the romance of 1920’s Rolls-Royce motor cars. This disc Rolls-Royce wheel is produced in both polished stainless steel and black lacquer, perfectly encapsulating the sense of flight on land.

The New G87 BMW M2 World Premiere 2024. The BMW M2 Carbon package will include M carbon bucket seats that are both power operated and heated as well as a carbon roof and carbon fiber interior trim. A power sunroof will be standard in the US but optional in Europe. Other options include a BMW M2 Shadowline package, a lighting package which offers full-LED adaptive headlights and automatic high beams and driver assistant packages.
The M2 is powered by the twin-turbo 3.0-litre BMW S58 straight-six engine rated at 338 kW (453 hp) at 6,250 rpm and 550 N⋅m (406 lb⋅ft) between 2,600 and 5,950 rpm. It remains rear-wheel drive and will be available with a 6-speed manual or with an 8-speed automatic.BMW M2 G87 0–100 km/h acceleration times are 4.3 seconds for manual transmission models and 4.1 seconds for automatic transmission models. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) but can be extended to 285 km/h (177 mph) with the optional M Driver's package.
The New G87 BMW M2 is expected to launch in April 2023.
