CSA astronaut Joshua Kutryk spent last week in Edmonton, Canada!
He shared his passion for space and talked about his upcoming mission to the International Space Station with youth, and the general public.
He even had the pleasure of giving a presentation at Two Hills School, the establishment he attended from grade 9 to 12; a unique and nostalgic moment for him.

2025-01-29 - In November 2024, as part of the CRS-31 mission, flight controllers remotely manoeuvred Canadarm2 and Dextre to extract a payload from the SpaceX Dragon cargo ship’s trunk (CRS-31) and install it on the International Space Station.
This animation was developed in preparation for the operation and shows just how complex robotic tasks can be.

As 2025 begins, take inspiration from Joshua Kutryk's training for his upcoming space mission! His preparation shows that discipline and readiness are key, whether you're working on a fitness goal or tackling new challenges this year.
Joshua is using the ARED machine, the same equipment that astronauts use on the ISS, to build strength and endurance for space. On Earth, gravity naturally helps keep our muscles and bones strong. But in space, without gravity, astronauts don’t have to support their bodies, which causes muscle and bone loss.
The ARED machine helps prevent this by providing resistance similar to free weights, in space. It uses vacuum cylinders that create up to 272 kilograms of resistance to target major muscle groups. Over the course of a long-duration mission, astronauts exercise approximately two hours per day, helping mitigate the risks to their strength and bone density.

Three years ago today, the James Webb Space Telescope launched into the cosmos, giving us a holiday gift for the ages: the power to peer deeper into the universe than ever before. 🎁✨
Webb’s images are stunning, and it is in part thanks to Canada’s contributions – the Fine Guidance Sensor (FGS), which enables Webb to lock onto and study objects with precision, and the Near-Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (NIRISS), which helps uncover many secrets of the cosmos. 🌌🔍
From discovering distant galaxies to studying the atmospheres of exoplanets, Webb truly is the gift that keeps on giving – and we’re thrilled to be part of the journey. Here's to another year of cosmic discoveries! 🚀💫

CubeSats are small satellites that can be used for scientific experiments. The CSA is currently leading the CUBICS initiative, which enables university students to take part in a real space mission. Selected teams have the unique opportunity to design, build, test, launch and operate their own CubeSat. All projects aim to advance scientific knowledge to better understand climate change.

2024-12-12 – From Florida to California via… the Moon! In their campervan-size Orion capsule atop the SLS rocket, CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen and his Artemis II crewmates will launch from Florida. They will orbit Earth twice before making their way to the Moon at 39 times the speed of sound. After the lunar flyby, Orion will use the Moon's gravity to return to Earth. They will then splash down on the coast of San Diego. Watch this vlog to hear Jeremy explain the Artemis II trajectory.
