The best way to isolate a thump or thud on a car with coil springs is to spin the wheel while holding the spring and feel for vibration. Rotate tires first and see if the corner of noise follows the tire. If you feel the vibration in the spring while rotating the tire you can know it's got a bad wheel hub bearing.
