The park spans over 31,000 acres, with about 10 miles of stunning coastline and dense forests filled with ancient redwoods, some towering over 300 feet tall and over 2,000 years old. Del Norte Coast Redwood State Park often experiences fog due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and its elevation range, which spans from sea level to about 1,500 feet.

The fog forms primarily because of the cool ocean currents meeting warmer air, creating condensation that rolls inland, especially during the summer months. This coastal fog plays a crucial role in the ecosystem, providing much-needed moisture to the towering redwoods and the forest floor, even during the drier seasons. The park's varying elevation allows fog to linger in the forest, creating the enchanting, misty atmosphere that visitors and nature enthusiasts love.
